I want to start off by thanking all those who have been able set aside some time to submit articles that have appeared in our maiden issue of the ISAE newsletter. More

 

 

Introduction

The Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics has a primary responsibility of training high level professionals in Statistics, Planning and Applied Economics in order to meet the urgent needs of the English speaking countries of Africa. We offer very competitive programs that are highly demanded by both the national and international markets. The tree pictured here characterizes the institute and symbolizes statistical wisdom.Since 1969, the Institute has trained a total of over 1500 Statisticians, Planners, Applied Economists andDemographers from Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambiaand Zimbabwe up to undergraduate and postgraduate professional level. Most of the ex-trainees of the Institute hold key and professionally important posts in their National Statistical Services. Others have joined regional and international organizations. The Institute also produces the best programmers in Africa and the world over.Besides, the Institute has, in close collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), hosted several short-term regional courses.
